Question of the Week: Which Tour Would You Prefer Part 1?

Last week, I shared the results of the last set of questions we asked in our weekly poll. That question focused on picking the songs that most represented each of Duran Duran’s major tours. At the end of the blog post, I asked if people were still interested in doing these polls and many said that they were. Likewise, I asked for suggestions for questions, which included something about fashion and lyrics. I liked those ideas but it will take me a bit to figure out how best to ask about them, but I will get to them! I promise. For now, I went with a question that seemed to fit nicely with the last set, which is about which tour people wish they had attended or could attend again. I figured for this set of questions, I might go back to the original format with one tour against each other rather than the complete list to find which tours are most popular. I will include the dates of the tour and, in some cases, I’ll include locations as well.

Let’s start at the very beginning! Which tour do you wish you could have attended or attend again? I would love to hear why people chose one tour over the other, too!

Songs That Represent Duran Duran Tours

Last weekend, we finished our latest series of questions. In this case, we asked fans to select songs that represented each of Duran Duran tours. We went one tour at a time and picked a song. Now is the time to share the complete results.

First Shows/1981 Tour

The result for these sets of shows was the same and a probably obvious choice!

Rio Tour

Like the previous tours, the choice for the song that best represents this era is also obvious!

Sing Blue Silver Tour

I found the song chosen for this iconic tour to be an interesting one as fans chose The Reflex. While that song was huge in 1984, I was just surprised since the only time it was played during the documentary about this tour was for a sound check.

Strange Behaviour Tour

I was not surprised by this one!

Big Live Thing Tour

Much like the previous tours, fans selected a single from the album that this tour supported.

No Ordinary Tour

I really liked the song that people chose to represent the tours surrounding the Wedding Album!

Thank You Promo Tour

Again, this song was pretty predictable when it comes to the shows played to promote the band’s album of cover songs.

Ultra Chrome Latex and Steel Tour

This tour accompanied the first album without a Taylor. That said, this song makes reference to the band’s beginnings.

Pop Trash Tour

If there is any song and any performance that could be considered memorable, it would be this one!

Astronaut Tour

For many of us, this song represents not only this tour but the reunion!

Red Carpet Massacre Tour

This song is one that many fans think the band should have released as a single during this era.

All You Need Is Now Tour

This song was the title track and one that many miss hearing live now.

Paper Gods Tour

This song was a definite fun one, especially with the confetti!

So what do you all think? Do these songs represent Duran’s various tours? Are there changes you would have made?

On a different note, should we continue with the questions of the week? If so, is there a question you would like us to ask?

Question of the Week: Which Song Represents the First Duran Duran Shows?

Somehow, it feels fitting to look at the setlists for the first Duran Duran shows right after we celebrated the official 40th anniversary, marking the first show of the Fab Five. As you know, we have been working on figuring out the most representative songs of each Duran Duran tour through our questions of the week. We started out with the most recent tours and moved back in time. Finally, we have reached the beginning. Which song represents the first shows Duran played? Before we get to the poll, let’s see what has been chosen for the rest of the tours.

Question of the Week: What Song Represents the 1981 Tours?

Did you know that Duran Duran played a number of different tours in 1981? According to the official tour timeline on the band’s official website, they started off with the First UK Tour from February to March. Then, there was the Faster Than Light Tour from June to July. The First European Shows were in September. The First North American Shows finished up September through some of October. The First German Shows were October to November. Finally, the Careless Memories Tour were in November and December. Instead of trying to separate the setlists for each of those tours, I’m putting them all together for our question of the week. As you know, we have been trying to pick out a song to represent each tour. We started with Paper Gods and have moved backwards to 1981. Here are the results so far:

  • Paper Gods Tour – Pressure Off
  • All You Need Is Now Tour – All You Need Is Now
  • Red Carpet Massacre Tour – Night Runner
  • Astronaut Tour – Sunrise
  • Pop Trash Tour – Hallucinating Elvis

We are getting closer and closer to having this set of questions complete. As I’m sure you know, we have been attempting to determine a song that best represents each Duran Duran tour. Question of the Week: Which Song Represents the Sing Blue Silver tour of 1984?

Last week’s question focused on the Strange Behavior Tour of 1987, supporting the album, Notorious. Unlike so many other polls in this theme, last week’s had a clear winner: Skin Trade. While there were a few other songs chosen, the vast majority picked Skin Trade. Therefore, we are ready to move on to the tour before that one, the Sing Blue Silver Tour of 1984, supporting Seven and the Ragged Tiger. In case you do not know what I am talking about, this set of questions is relatively simple. We are picking out a song that represents each of Duran’s major tours throughout the band’s history. We started with the most recent tour and have moved back in time. The results so far are:

  • Paper Gods Tour – Pressure Off
  • All You Need Is Now Tour – All You Need Is Now
  • Red Carpet Massacre Tour – Night Runner
  • Astronaut Tour – Sunrise
  • Pop Trash Tour – Hallucinating Elvis
  • Ultra Chrome Latex and Steel Tour – Electric Barbarella
  • Thank You Promo Tour – White Lines
  • No Ordinary Tour – Too Much Information
  • Big Live Thing – I Don’t Want Your Love
  • Strange Behavior Tour – Skin Trade

Today’s poll, then, features all the songs that Duran Duran played live during the Sing Blue Silver Tour. They are listed by the frequency with which they were played. Songs played more often are at the top while songs played rarely are at the bottom. On that note, which song best represents the Sing Blue Silver Tour?

Question of the Week of June 21st: What Song Represents the Strange Behaviour Tour?

This week’s poll moved to Sunday, where it may stay. Honestly, I pushed it back a day in order to celebrate John Taylor’s birthday, which I suspect that you are all fine with. Anyway, the survey theme continues. We are trying to develop a playlist of songs that represent each and every Duran tour. When this set of questions began, we chose to start at the most recent tour and move backwards in time. Here are the selections so far:

  • Paper Gods Tour – Pressure Off
  • All You Need Is Now Tour – All You Need Is Now
  • Red Carpet Massacre Tour – Night Runner
  • Astronaut Tour – Sunrise
  • Pop Trash Tour – Hallucinating Elvis
  • Ultra Chrome Latex and Steel Tour – Electric Barbarella
  • Thank You Promo Tour – White Lines
  • No Ordinary Tour – Too Much Information
  • Big Live Thing Tour – I Don’t Want Your Love

This, of course, brings us to the year of 1987 and the Strange Behaviour Tour to support the album, Notorious. As always, the poll includes each and every song that was played by Duran live during that year. Out of all the songs on the list, which one do you represents that tour the most? Happy voting!

Question of the Week: Song That Represents the Big Live Thing Tour

Last week’s poll continued our quest to determine a song that best represents each Duran Duran tour. So far, we have picked a song for the following tours:

  • Paper Gods Tour – Pressure Off
  • All You Need Is Now Tour – All You Need Is Now
  • Red Carpet Massacre Tour – Night Runner
  • Astronaut Tour – Sunrise
  • Pop Trash Tour – Hallucinating Elvis
  • Ultra Chrome Latex and Steel Tour – Electric Barbarella
  • Thank You Promo Tour – White Lines
  • No Ordinary Tour – Too Much Information

This brought us to the Big Thing era and the Big Live Thing Tour. Like previous tours, first, we listed every song that was played in 1989. Based on last week’s vote, we will ask just about the songs that were chosen to determine the song that best represents the Big Live Thing Tour. Happy voting!

Question of the Week: Which Song Best Represents the Big Live Thing Tour of 1988-1989?

Our continuing quest to determine the song that best represents each tour continues. The idea behind this set of surveys is simple. If we could pick out one song that best showcases each tour, that could make for a fun playlist. We started with the most recent tour and then moved backwards in Duran history. The results so far are:

  • Paper Gods Tour – Pressure Off
  • All You Need Is Now Tour – All You Need Is Now
  • Red Carpet Massacre Tour – Night Runner
  • Astronaut Tour – Sunrise
  • Pop Trash Tour – Hallucinating Elvis
  • Ultra Chrome Latex and Steel Tour – Electric Barbarella
  • Thank You Promo tour – White Lines
  • No Ordinary Tour – Too Much Information

This week, we ask about the Big Live Thing Tour of 1988-1989. In order to make the poll, I looked up all the songs played in 1989. They are listed by frequency of play. On that note, happy voting!

Question of the Week: Which Song Best Represents the No Ordinary Tour Part 2

Last week’s poll asked the question: Which song best represents the No Ordinary Tour of 1993. This, of course, is part of a larger set of questions about which songs represents Duran Duran tours. So far we have the following results:

  • Paper Gods – Pressure Off
  • All You Need Is Now – All You Need Is Now
  • Red Carpet Massacre – Night Runner
  • Astronaut – Sunrise
  • Pop Trash – Hallucinating Elvis
  • Ultra Chrome Latex and Steel Tour – Electric Barbarella

Last week’s question yielded some interesting results. Sometimes, we need one song that clearly is the winner as the vast majority of votes are there. Other times, it is between two songs. This time, three songs emerged with significant number of votes: Ordinary World, Too Much Information and Save a Prayer. Because there were three songs that got a lot of votes, I decided to ask a second version of this question with just these three songs. Which one out of those three best represents the No Ordinary Tour?
