Duran Duran History: Greatest Bassist

Today’s Duran Duran history takes us back two years to 2013 when John Taylor was named the “Greatest Bassist of All Time” in a MusicRadar.com poll.  He received 30 percent of the public vote.  I found the list here.  They included the top 60 bassists!  The fact that John was on the top is pretty impressive!!

The website included Rio as the example of great John Taylor bass playing!  It is a good one!

What would you include in great John Taylor bass playing?

  1. I like John’s bass playing on Runway Runaway, New Religion, Last Chance on the Stairway, The Chaufeur, Rio, Safe, Planet Earth….amongst many. Wish he’d played on Come Undone because that’s cool sounding too.

  2. Wow! John certainly deserves it, he has always been top of my list. I have Roger on my top drummers list for sure. Duran sure had/have it all: great talent, great vision, great songwriting….and good looks. Didnt see the list yet but I hope Mick Karn from Japan and Nick Beggs from Kaja are on there somewhere…and the bassist from Simple Minds! Those dudes rock the bass too.
