Studio-time Cometh: New Music Ahead!

Happy Monday, everybody!

I trust that everyone made it through Black Friday and has cruised smoothly into Cyber Monday. If you’re like me and thought braving Costco on the Sunday after Thanksgiving was a good idea, we probably need our heads examined.

Naturally, the big news for this week is that John mentioned a little something about heading back to London in order to have a meeting the minds in the studio. I have a couple of thoughts on this:

  1. YAY!!
  2. I wonder how long it will be before we start hearing rumors of collaborations? I almost prefer betting on when those might begin, as opposed to with whom!

Naturally I’m thrilled to hear the words “studio”, “writing” and even better, “recording” come out of any band members mouth.  It is kind of funny, because for the bulk of this year – I’ve been happy to wait. I figured they’d eventually get back to a studio. Writing music has to be a habit they just can’t quite quit. I’m definitely not complaining, but I figured it would take time. It needs to take time, too. Go back too early and there would be four very weary guys trying to write when maybe, they really didn’t want to fully commit yet. It wouldn’t bode well.

By the same token, I was not opposed to getting news of shows for 2019. Daily Duranie is as much a blog about the act of being a fan as it is about Duran Duran. For me, the shows in February couldn’t have been planned much better. I’m thrilled to have a few things to be looking forward to in the coming weeks and months. It takes the edge off of my first few weeks of December, that’s for sure!

Some people are thrilled to put Paper Gods in the rearview mirror. They’ve heard the album, done the tour many times, and are ready for something new. I thoroughly enjoyed Paper Gods, which in hindsight, surprises me. I loved All You Need is Now. That tour knocked me off of my feet. I have fantabulous memories of shows, friends, and fun. Going into Paper Gods, I just didn’t see how any of it could be topped, but somehow, someway, it was. For me personally, it isn’t that I’m ready to put it behind me, but instead I’m ready to experience whatever is going to come next with an open heart and mind.

That’s the crazy thing about music, and even life. Just when you think you’ve done as much as possible or have heard the best, something else comes along and proves otherwise. Our hearts and minds have to be open to change and ready to evolve – otherwise we might just miss out on something amazingly good!

For me, that is the challenge. Change is difficult. I’m learning that I don’t have to completely let go of the past. Instead, I need to be willing and open to whatever comes next. After all, whatever we experienced before is what shaped us for what is yet to come. We will still carry “Friends of Mine”, “Land”, “Nite Runner” and even “Planet Roaring” and “The Universe Alone” with us, but we need to be wiling to live, hear and take the next chapter to heart just as openly.

I’m ready. Are you?

It’s November: time for Peanuts, and even Election Day!

…and it’s November already.  Part of me is happy to be nearly finished with 2018, and another part of me is standing here saying, “Wait, what just happened to the entire YEAR?”

I’m feeling optimistic about 2019, but we’ve got to finish out 2018 first, I suppose. I’ve got just the thing to begin the month on the right note, too!

Who doesn’t love Duran Duran?!?  Take that band, and combine them with one of my favorite set of cartoon characters – and you’ve got the Peanuts gang singing “Hungry Like the Wolf”.

Doo do doo do….

Yeah, it’s that song again. That Pavlovian bell of iconic laughter at the beginning, along with the rest of the tune, will outlive all of us. This song will end up being totally synonymous with the 1980s – not that it isn’t already (but I think this will be the big one!).  My great-grandchildren will hear it and immediately be reminded of a crazy old lady in their family who actually blogged every day about this band.  Insanity!!

The video is super cute though, and so much more clever than just writing every single day. I love seeing Pig Pen on the drums, synced with the song, followed by the gang singing my favorite part,  “doo do doo do, do doo do, do doo do, do doo do, doo do.” Impressive!

Here we are, on the cusp of the holiday season. I saw a meme last night that said something about how at the strike of twelve, jack-o-lanterns would disappear and holiday music would begin playing. Last night I was watching TV in between trick-or-treaters, and I saw holiday commercials on TV already.  My glass very nearly left my hand and hurled itself towards the television. I’m definitely not ready, are you??

Vegas in February!

I’ll tell you what I am ready for though! I’m ready to start planning for a mini-Duranie convention in Vegas! We’ve got one more week until the US election day. After she gets some much needed rest, Amanda and I will begin working to put something solid together.  What you need to know, if you’re at all interested in a party – is that our festivities are going to begin on Thursday night! So plan on getting to Vegas a night early!

Speaking of Election Day, let’s set the tone properly, shall we?

US people, do your part and VOTE on Tuesday !!!

Hallucinating Durandemonium…in Vegas!

Hi everyone!

I feel battered, and not only due to the ticket pre-sale I just completely bombed out on. It’s been a rough few days. I’m sorry I didn’t blog yesterday. It’s been pretty stressful, and my body decided to respond with the worst headache I have ever had. I’m trying very hard to remain calm today, as stress seems to make my headache come right back up again.

About that pre-sale…

First of all, we did get tickets. I will get that out-of-the-way now. I’m not complaining about what we got, and I really don’t care to relive the horror with obtaining them. So I won’t. I’ll just say that I remain 100% convinced that Ticketmaster is corrupt. There is very little anyone could tell me to make me believe otherwise, especially while that company continues to own and operate a secondary marketplace. I am quite sure I’m not alone on that front.

However, I am relieved that we do have tickets, and that I can look forward to a much needed getaway with my best group of friends in February. I can’t wait to see people I’ve missed, and maybe even make new friends along the way. That, above all else, is what I will be thinking about in the coming months. I definitely won’t be thinking about what seats I have, or how skewed and corrupt the ticket buying system really is.

What happens in Vegas…

Here’s the deal: we were thinking about doing a welcome party at the very least…and possibly some convention-type activities on Friday and Saturday during the day before the show if there’s interest.

What I need to know though is whether or not there will be enough Duranies in town on Thursday night to actually do a party.  So let us know if there’s interest in a Durandemonium party to start the weekend off, and also if you think doing convention things during the day on Friday and Saturday might be fun, too.  That way, I can set to work figuring out what can be done so that we can all get the most bang for our buck out of the weekend!

Stays in Vegas….

Now comes the fun part in trip planning – figuring out when I’m leaving, and where we’re staying! This trip is just what I needed, and exactly at the right time. My husband has my birthday and Christmas gifts all wrapped up for him, and I have something to look forward to!

Let me know if you’re coming to Vegas and what you think about attending a Durandemonium party on Thursday night! (we wouldn’t do it on Friday because everyone would be getting ready for the show!)
