End of the Week Recap

I’m so sorry that I did not get a blog written yesterday.  I thought that I would have time but other duties got in the way.  Typically, if I know that Fridays will be difficult to find time, I write the blog post on Thursday night.  This week, I didn’t think I would need to do that because I did not have to go to work on Friday.  This led me to sleep in, believing that the afternoon would be open.  Unfortunately, a campaign task that I figured would be easy to get done literally sucked up my entire afternoon.  I was not pleased.  By the time I could blog, it was late and I was seriously crabby.  Not a good mood to blog.  Today, though, I’m here with a better frame of mind. (I hope! Ha!)

As I suffered through my week’s long “professional development” at work, I noticed that there were quite a few little Duran alerts that I wanted to acknowledge.

Cold War Premiere:

This week, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, attended the premiere of the film, Cold War, in London, according to Duran’s Twitter.  While I love knowing what they are up to, I also appreciate that by sharing this I learn about an upcoming film.  People should feel free to ask me about the latest political moves and people in the U.S.  I’m feel like I pay enough attention to be good on that front!  I also feel pretty solid with my knowledge on Duran but the latest pop culture like movies or TV shows?  Not so much but I do like when someone sharing something about a upcoming movie that interests me.  According to IMDB, the plot is as follows:  “A passionate love story between two people of different backgrounds and temperaments, who are fatefully mismatched, set against the background of the Cold War in the 1950s in Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris.”  It sounds fascinating to me, mostly because of the historical context.

Simon and Sunseeker:

Simon will be a special guest at the Soton Boat Show on Friday, September 14th, according to a tweet from Sunseeker International.  What is this, you might ask.  (I did.)  This is what I learned.  According to the website, “TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show, Britain’s biggest and best festival of boating, showcases a plethora of beautifully designed boats and products from over 600 global marine brands.”  Its purpose is to celebrate boating in Britain.  I am not surprised that Simon will be attending.  It sounds like something right up his alley!

In2ruders:

Nick has been involved with another movie beyond attending premieres with John.  According to the tweet, Nick scored the soundtrack to the movie, In2ruders.  If that was not enough to catch your attention, his daughter, Tatjana, edited it and it stars the Bloom Twins.  Want to see the first teaser?!  You know you do!

After watching the teaser, I have to admit that I’m more intrigued with the idea of it being about the “dark side of the music industry”.  Fascinating!

Pressure Off Remixes:

If all that was not enough, Rhonda alerted me to some Pressure Off Remixes that are out there.  According to the thread, which you can read here, they were commissioned and never used.  I have to wonder why they were not used.  A lot of people really dig remixes.  Here they are:

What do you think of these remixes?  Do you have a favorite?  How do they compare to the original/album version?

Ultimate Box Set: Remixes Part 5

We have three weeks left in our task to create an Ultimate Duran Duran Box Set!  This week, we finish picking possible remixes for it.  Then, we will take all of the remixes chosen for consideration and pick the final seven.  Lastly, we will put all of the categories together to see exactly what the box set contains!  In case you have no idea of what the heck I’m talking about, I’ll give a brief summary.  My friend suggested that fans create the Ultimate Duran Duran Box Set.  This set would contain 7 tracks in the following categories:  Singles, Album Tracks, B-Sides/Demos/Bonus Tracks, Live Tracks, Side/Solo Project Tracks, and finally Remixes.  The idea is that then we have shown Duran from all sides.

Remixes in the running include:

  • Hungry Like the Wolf (Night Version)
  • Planet Earth (Night Version)
  • Girls on Film (Night Version)
  • The Chauffeur (Blue Silver)
  • Is There Something I Should Know (Monster Mix)
  • New Religion (Carnival Mix)
  • Hold Back the Rain (12″ Remix)
  • My Own Way (Night Version)
  • The Reflex (Dance Mix)
  • New Moon on Monday (Dance Mix)
  • Union of the Snake (Monkey Mix)
  • Wild Boys (Wilder Than Wild Boys)
  • Skin Trade (Parisian Mix)
  • American Science (Chemical Reaction)
  • All She Wants Is (US Master Mix)
  • Ordinary World (Acoustic)
  • Serious (7″ Edit)
  • Fallen Angel (Alternate Version)
  • Love Voodoo (Remix)
  • Too Much Information (Trance Mix 12″)
  • Come Undone (Mix 1 Master)
  • Out of my Mind (Perfecto Mix)
  • Perfect Day (Acoustic Version)
  • Starting to Remember (Acoustic Version)
  • Someone Else Not Me (Peter’s Honor Radio Mix)
  • Electric Barbarella (All Fired Up Mix)
  • Medazzaland (Extended Instrumental Version)
  • White Lines (Oakland Funk Mix)

Now, we finish picking out possible remixes by looking at the remixes from the last four albums, including Astronaut, Red Carpet Massacre, All You Need Is Now, and Paper Gods.  As with the other remixes, I have created a playlist of as many remixes as I could find.  Therefore, I recommend you listen to the various tracks, then vote on the 7 that you think should be considered for the box set!

Ultimate Box Set: Remixes Part 4

Last weekend, we paused on our continuing task to have the fans, the readers of this blog create a Duran Duran Ultimate Box Set.  We did this to continue to celebrate DD Appreciation Day.  Now, though, we return to picking out remixes that we think might be good ones to include on our fan create box set.  So far, we have chosen songs to represent the band’s singles, album tracks, side/solo projects, live tracks, and b-sides/bonus/demos.  Now, we are working on the last category in remixes.  So far we have asked about remixes connected to the first album through the Wedding Album.  This week, we focus on the Thank You, Medazzaland and Pop Trash eras.

The remixes that fans have chosen to be considered include:

  • Hungry Like the Wolf (Night Version)
  • Planet Earth (Night Version)
  • Girls on Film (Night Version)
  • The Chauffeur (Blue Silver)
  • Is There Something I Should Know (Monster Mix)
  • New Religion (Carnival Mix)
  • Hold Back the Rain (12″ Remix)
  • My Own Way (Night Version)
  • The Reflex (Dance Mix)
  • New Moon on Monday (Dance Mix)
  • Union of the Snake (Monkey Mix)
  • Wild Boys (Wilder Than Wild Boys)
  • Skin Trade (Parisian Mix)
  • American Science (Chemical Reaction)
  • All She Wants Is (US Master Mix)
  • Ordinary World (Acoustic)
  • Serious (7″ Edit)
  • Fallen Angel (Alternate Version)
  • Love Voodoo (Remix)
  • Too Much Information (Trance Mix 12″)
  • Come Undone (Mix 1 Master)

Like previous weeks, I have created a playlist of as many remixes that I could find to help you with your task.

So, go through the playlist and through your Duran collection, then vote for the 7 remixes you think should be considered for the box set!

Ultimate Box Set: Remixed Part 3

We are getting closer and closer to finishing the last part to the box set.  To back up slightly, the readers and fans who read this blog are voting through polls to create an Ultimate Duran Duran Box Set.  People have chosen 7 songs in the following categories:  Singles, Album Tracks, Side/Solo songs, B-sides/Bonus tracks and live songs.  We are now voting on the last category:  remixes.  This week, people will be voting to determine which 7 remixes from Liberty and the Wedding Album should be considered for the box set.

So far, the remixes that are under consideration include:

  • Hungry Like the Wolf (Night Version)
  • Planet Earth (Night Version)
  • Girls on Film (Night Version)
  • The Chauffeur (Blue Silver)
  • Is There Something I Should Know (Monster Mix)
  • New Religion (Carnival Mix)
  • Hold Back the Rain (12″ Remix)
  • My Own Way (Night Version)
  • The Reflex (Dance Mix)
  • New Moon on Monday (Dance Mix)
  • Union of the Snake (Monkey Mix)
  • Wild Boys (Wilder Than Wild Boys)
  • Skin Trade (Parisian Mix)
  • American Science (Chemical Reaction)
  • All She Wants Is (US Master Mix)

If you are anything like me, you may not be super knowledgable about each and every remix.  Thus, I did create another YouTube playlist with as many remixes I could find from the Liberty and Wedding Album era.

So, I recommend that you listen to each of them and then vote for the 7 you think should remain in the running!  Happy listening and happy voting!

Ultimate Box Set: Remixes Part 2

Last weekend, we began the last of the categories for the fan created Duran Duran Ultimate Box Set.  So far, we have picked 7 songs in each category to represent the band’s singles, album tracks, live tracks, b-sides/bonus tracks, and side/solo project songs.  Now, we focus on remixes.  In the first poll in this category, we focused on just the remixes from the first two albums.  After all, there were something like 60 official remixes for those albums alone!  That’s a lot.  The winners, or remixes, that will remain in consideration are:

  • Hungry Like the Wolf (Night Version)
  • Planet Earth (Night Version)
  • Girls on Film (Night Version)
  • The Chauffeur (Blue Silver)
  • Is There Something I Should Know (Monster Mix)
  • New Religion (Carnival Mix)
  • Hold Back the Rain (12″ Remix)
  • My Own Way (Night Version)

In part two, for this week’s poll, we will focus on remixes from the next three albums:  Seven and the Ragged Tiger, Notorious and Big Thing.  If you are anything like me, some of these remixes are not super known.  Like last week, I put together a YouTube playlist with as many of these remixes as I could find.  Listen away and then vote!

Now, we will finish with remixes.  Initially, this category was not going to be included, but many who read and participate asked for it.  I have to admit that remixes are not an area of expertise for me.  I know lots of Duran info but I have not spent a great deal of time to collect each and every remix and to determine the differences between them.  Thus, I did what any good researcher would do.  I sought out the band’s official website that includes a list of official version, which you can read here.

I am well aware that there are LOTS of remixes out there of Duran Duran songs.  I am only going to ask about official ones, as in the ones that Duran has acknowledged and/or released themselves.  As I started to create the poll for remixes, I noticed just how many there are out there.  In fact, with just looking at the first two albums, there are well over 60 different remixes.  Like with other categories with a large number of options, I chose to break off the poll after the first two albums.  The rest of the remixes will be asked about in future polls.  Because I am not super familiar with remixes, I figured that some of you might not be either.  Thus, I created a YouTube playlist of the remixes I could find.

On that note, let’s vote on the remixes from the first two albums.  Remember that you can and should vote for 7 songs!
