Today in Duran History – Detroit and Andy Taylor

On today’s date in 1993, Duran Duran played at the Pine Knob Theater in Detroit, Michigan. This date was included on the No Ordinary World tour.

Additionally, on this date in 2006, Andy Taylor made his final appearance with the band, where they performed at the Annual Red Cross Gala in Monte Carlo, Monaco.  I am sure I speak for many when I say that in some ways, it hardly seems possible that eight years have passed, and in others – it feels like so much longer.  It is very clear that Andy continues to be missed.  Rarely a day goes by that pleas for his return cannot be seen in response to nearly anything Duran Duran posts on their Facebook page.  Loyalty? Yes, definitely.

  1. Hey, thanks for writing those lovely words for Andy, although I’m a long time Dom’s fan.
Yes, out of the band it was a new beginning for the band, for Andy and for Dom. So, I’m asking you: if it were humanly possible, would you see Dom asking Andy to make a guest appearance in one of his upcoming solo songs, or Warren asking Dom/Andy for guest appearances in his music projects?

    1. I don’t know if Dom really knows Andy well-enough to invite him to work with him; but I know Dom well enough to know that he has no ego and if he felt that he could benefit from contribution from Andy, I think he’d ask. On the other hand, I am almost positive that Warren would never ask Andy or Dom to make a guest appearance in his work. I just don’t see it. -R
