The Week in DD History: August 16-22, 2020

So, here it is: our first post under the “History” category. Truthfully, my main goal here is to populate the site with some much-needed current content—but also, I haven’t blogged in a while. It is time.

Boggles my mind that this week in 2012, I was hastily driving all over the southeast with Amanda. We were headed to shows in Biloxi Mississippi, Atlanta Georgia, Durham North Carolina, and Portsmouth Virginia for the All You Need is Now tour. There definitely wasn’t discussion of pandemics on that car ride! The weekend was filled with plenty of driving—I think we clocked in something like 1300 miles in that weekend and it meant getting up at the crack of dawn to be on the road in time to make it from one state to another. We hosted pre-show meet ups and met a lot of new people on that trip! While we were driving, Amanda and I talked a lot, tried to keep one another awake, and of course, we (over)analyzed every single second of the shows we saw. I’m not quite sure I’d want to have a complete do-over of that road trip, but I wouldn’t mind reliving some of it. One of the funniest things I have nearly no recollection of doing was sending the tweet you might have seen included as the featured photo for this post. Good times.

Never a dull moment when Amanda and I are together. Hard to believe it was eight years ago.

Other notable points in history for this week include:

  • John hosted VH1’s Then and Now in 1997 (August 17)
  • Nick married Julieanne in 1984 (August 18) in about the pinkest celebration ever…
  • Duran Duran was interviewed on Star 98.7 – Los Angeles, CA in 2004 (August 19)
  • Andy Taylor Jr. was born in 1984
  • Save a Prayer peaked at number 2 on the UK charts, 1982

Historically, the band has played a number of shows and have had a lot going on during this week of August!

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
