So, yesterday was the day I was supposed to have a My Own Way posting. Instead, I was working on another project, something additional we are trying to do for our Daily Duranie audience.
Some of you love reading our blogs. Others find that it’s difficult to sit down and spend a few minutes reading during your day. YouTube has become a way for us to reach Duran Duran fans—and they’re a completely different audience. Even so, those people don’t read the blog, and many of our blog readers can’t find time to watch the videos. Additionally, we’ve been asked several times over the years to consider doing a podcast.
For the longest time, I wouldn’t commit to trying one. Everything we do takes time, and being the tech person around here, I only have so many house I can feasibly spend on the site and blog. (Which is honestly frightening. If you knew me, you’d realize I am about as far from being a techie as it gets. But, here we are.) The fact is, I can’t ignore that podcasts are really taking off, and I like the idea of learning something new.
So, yesterday, I recorded the first podcast. Mostly, it was a test to see if A. I could actually talk that long. To myself, no less, and B. Could I figure out how to do basic editing and get it online?
I’m happy…or I suppose even slightly concerned, that yes, I really CAN talk for a while. It turns out that I can carry on a full conversation—with myself—for at least a half hour. Yay?? I can also say that I’ve learned how to do basic editing. I actually kind of like it, really.
I also appreciate that with the podcast, people are able to download it and listen to it at their leisure, or they can stream from the site. That way, no one needs to set aside a half hour to listen to me to ramble away and be a captive office. Hopefully, this will make those of you “mobile” people out there happier. At the very least, maybe it will give someone a chuckle every now and then.
One additional thing I should explain before letting this podcast loose on the world is that Amanda and I will still be blogging. That won’t change. The podcast – which has the obvious title of “The Daily Duranie, Podcast Edition!” will serve as another way for us to reach audiences, not the “new” way, if that makes sense. I think that for me, I am likely to do more podcasts for the My Own Way segment that I do on Thursdays, and our plan for now is to take the audio from our Vodka Friday videos and upload that as a podcast as well. That way, if Youtube is cumbersome for some, then maybe downloading the podcast is a better option.
A bit of a housekeeping issue along with all of that is that since I will do My Own Way segments as a podcast as well as Vodka Fridays and possibly some other types of shows in the months to come (think reviews or commentaries as our world returns to normal along with albums and tours happening at some point), the podcasts will be titled and labeled in such a way that you’ll be able to tell if you’re getting a My Own Way episode, a Vodka Friday, or something else. I’m going to try my best to keep it simple and easy.
The reality is, we are far from getting this podcasting thing down. For one, I have to convince Amanda that it is as easy as doing video. Also, I need to spend time setting up the podcast on iTunes, Spotify, and a bunch of other places, if we really want to get into spreading a wider net. For now, I’m simply going to post it here, along with Twitter and Facebook, while I work on the backend, more tedious things.
On that note, Podcasting 101- The Test is coming your way!

Just wanted to let you know you did a great job. You really discussed feeling nervous and I think we can all relate to that. I feel that way sometimes about the fan community, wondering if they are judging and found yes many do but they aren’t worth my time.
I am so excited to hear that you guys are getting into podcasting because I love watching you on YouTube but sometimes, I do not have the time to sit and watch but…. every lunch hour I go and take a walk outside and I always listen to podcasts, so that would be my perfect walk / listen to do ! Keep up the great work girls !
