On The Radar – Erasure, The Killers and More!

A lot of new music came out on Friday so in-between revisiting Liberty on it’s 30 year anniversary, I’ve been spinning new albums from The Killers and Erasure for an upcoming episode of The Encores Club with Rhonda and a special guest the Duran Duran community will definitely know!

I’ll spare you my thoughts on Erasure and The Killers as we hope you’ll tune into that episode of The Encores Club but two of the highlights from those albums are at the end of today’s post.

In other music news, the coolest 80s cover of the year goes to Orville Peck and his country-tinged take on Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy”. Bringing a gay anthem to country music is another step forward for a genre that has been out-of-step with mainstream values for quite some time. If you are a country fan, I can’t say enough about Peck’s cover of “Fancy” by Reba as well.

And finally, for the Bowie children (isn’t that all of us), check out Doug Allred & the Silver Lining. “Sugar Paper Heart”. The chord progression of this is sublime and the song soothes the loneliness of quarantine. The single arrives next week on streaming platforms but here’s a sneak-peak via Soundcloud.

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
