On today’s date in 1987 (that seems so long ago right now…), Duran Duran appeared on the final episode of The Tube. Before anyone asks…yes, I did in fact google “The Tube”, because this American didn’t have a clue.
The Tube was a UK pop-rock music program that ran for 5 seasons. (Thank you, wikipedia) It had live hosts such as Jools Holland and Paula Yates, among others. (My brain is now starting to vaguely recall hearing or reading about this show somewhere…)
Once again, I learn something new as a result of Duran Duran and writing this blog. The gift that keeps on giving.

Hi there, Duranies!
By great coincidence I also posted about Paula Yates and The Tube recently, if you’ll excuse my self-promotion:

It took me ages to find a good clip of Paula on The Tube, but the most appropriate one I could find was in fact of her on the very last minute of the very last episode, the one that Duran Duran were also on. I wasn’t aware that it had happened in April – yesterday, in fact. (Which kind of makes the anniversary more poignant in light of what also took place a few days ago.)
It’s a shame that there isn’t more good footage of The Tube available, it was an absolutely fantastic programme. It’s funny that Duran Duran were on the last episode as The Tube was more of a live rock/indie/goth band type of show.
Paula was brilliant on it. Another sad thing about the lack of good footage from The Tube is that people who only know her from the late 90s, when her life really was not going well, don’t have the opportunity to see what a cute, smart, witty, funny and generally all-round chick she really was.
Simon le Bon was best man at Paula’s marriage to Bob Geldof in Las Vegas on 31 August 1986. They also had a blessing in the church where, sadly, their daughter Peaches’ funeral was held just a few days ago.
