We’ll Drink to That!

At least the drinks were festive! London, UK

Sometimes, it is crazy to think that I’ve known Amanda for eighteen years. But then, I sit back and try to think of a fun touring memory to share and realize that there are so many to choose from! Today though, I remember back to the times when Amanda and I used to pose with a drink every time we’d go on tour!

I don’t know what started this, exactly—only that for the first several tours we did together, we would always try for at least one photo where we’d order some sort of a huge drink and then pose with it. Sometimes that drink would be super tall, like a “yard” sized glass, other times it would be a fishbowl, and still other times we’d just grab two drinks and go for it.

It’s funny because at first, we just did these photos for fun, but we went to the UK for the All You Need is Now tour, we had quite a reputation for enjoying a cocktail, I guess! I can’t imagine why. LOLOL The pictures didn’t always turn out great, but as I went looking through my own Facebook photos and Amanda’s as well, it’s pretty obvious to see that we have enjoyed MANY cocktails over the years. Even funnier is that as I glance through the pictures, I know where nearly every one of them was taken and what tour they belong with!

Over the years, we’ve had Hurricanes in New Orleans, some sort of red fishbowl drink at not one, but two Reflex bars in England, fancy “froo-froo” drinks at nearly every Hard Rock Cafe we’ve come across (and we buy shots at each one too, because “traditions”), vodka tonics in far too many places to list, and one really awful tiki bar fishbowl drink in San Francisco.

During the Paper Gods tour, Amanda and I had the opportunity to spend quite a few days together as we road tripped the midwest and Canada, then up and down the state of California. As we traveled, we were also amused by whatever the band was doing at the time (as one is!), and we would take the time to keep ourselves updated and entertained with their offstage activities on Instagram. Sometimes they’d be on the beach, biking, or even having drinks themselves with some very similarly fashioned photos to ours. Coincidence? Who really knows for sure?

Here’s a gallery including a smattering of our drink photos over the years. I don’t know about Amanda, but I am hopeful that the day will come when we can add to the collection! I mean, we’ve got to keep hydrated!! -R

By Daily Duranie

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
