Vodka Friday: Convention Memories

Did you know that there was a Duran Duran fans convention in September of 2004? Not only did both of us attend said convention in New Orleans but that is where we met. Think about that for a second. Had we not attended that particular event, there would be no Daily Duranie. (Maybe some of you wish that was the case!) On top of this blog, I doubt either one of us would have attended as many concerts as we have. This was a monumental moments in our lives (although I doubt either of us really knew it at the time). So what happened? What was it like? Why do we still talk about it so much even 16 (!!!) years later? How did that experience lead us to start this website? Organize meet-ups at shows? Heck, why did we even plan our own weekend long convention in 2013? Perhaps, more importantly, should we start to think about holding another one? Watch to find out!

By Daily Duranie

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.

  1. Thanks for bringing back a lot of happy memories of the New Orleans Convention. I had so much fun working on it as the head of the entertainment committee and planning the activities, Remember the digital Duranie Road Rules, and dance party with that awesome DJ. I would love to help you if you would like to do another. I have a ton of experience with fan convention running and Duranie Meet ups in the past and would like to get back into the mix.

    1. Hi Pam!!!

I remember you so very well from that weekend. 🙂 It was so fun, and I was so proud to see it all work out. One of the best events ever. I totally forgot about the digital Duranie Road Rules, probably because I was inside working!!

We would love to do another convention at some point when we’re all allowed to move about freely again. Let’s hope that time comes sooner rather than later. -R

  2. As you girls already know, I am willing to participate at either the virtual one or the in person one ! That would be so much fun to be able to gather all Duranies together and have a great time sharing one common goal ! I know I have enjoyed your virtual parties already so if it happens, i’m in !

Hey there, thanks for commenting! We encourage spirited, kind and thoughtful discussion. Thanks for participating!!
