The Week in DD History: January 3 – January 9

We are finally in 2021. Words cannot convey how thrilled everyone I know is to see 2020 go. Now that we are in 2021, we can feel good about celebrating Duran Duran history. While I suspect that January is a pretty quiet on Duran front, will that be the case? Let’s take a look.

January 3:

  • Duran Duran appeared on the TV show, Las Vegas, in 2005. I remember watching it and wondering if I should be excited or horrified by the appearance as Andy was not there but had Dom wearing a wig to replace him. So bad.

January 4:

  • Duran Duran played at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit in 1994.
  • On this date in 2001, Duran Duran played at the Level in Miami, FL. It seems to me that Miami would be a better choice for location in January but what do I know!

January 5:

  • Neurotic Outsider played at the Nile Theater in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1996.

January 6:

  • Nick Rhodes and Simon LeBon appeared on the Wogan Show on BBC TV in the UK in 1986.
  • In 1994, Duran Duran played at Hartford Civic Center.

January 7:

  • The single, All She Wants Is, peaked at number 9 in the UK in 1989.
  • In 2001, the song, Last Day on Earth, was released as a single in Japan only.

January 8:

  • Duran Duran played at the Hollywood Rock Festival in Rio in 1988.
  • C’est Tout Est Noir by Koishii and Hush that featured John Taylor was released in 2013. (Personally, I love it.)

January 9:

  • Duran Duran filmed the video for New Moon on Monday in France in 1984.
  • Ordinary World, the single, peaked at number 3 in the US in 1993.

So far, January is starting pretty quiet as far as Duran happenings but some of those events are still pretty cool. Which event is your favorite?

By Daily Duranie

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
