The Week in Duran Duran History: October 11 – 17

Astronaut

When I think about the month of October, it feels like a busy Duran Duran month, meaning that a lot has happened in Duran history during this month. Is that true? Let’s check out some highlights from October 11th to the 17th to see whether or not my impression is accurate!

October 11:

  • The Astronaut album was released in 2004! I will never forget that day as I ran to Best Buy over my lunch break to get my copy. Then, I combed through the liner notes while I ate, ignoring the people I was at lunch with. I was a bit obsessed!
  • On that same year, Duran played on Good Morning America. I loved all the coverage they were getting at that time!
  • Duran played at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL in 2011. Was anyone there? How was the show?

October 12:

  • Duran Duran played at Music Center in Utrecht, Netherlands in 1982. Seriously, if you were there, I want all of the details! What was it like to see Duran live in 1982??
  • Does anyone remember the Gap ads that featured Simon and Nick? Well, apparently, they were released worldwide on this date in 2001.

October 13:

  • Duran Duran appeared and performed on the Regis and Kelly show in 2004. Another one that I so loved at the time!

October 14:

  • Duran appeared and performed on the Rosie O’Donnell Show in 1997. This is one appearance of that era that I watched live!
  • Duran played at the Forum in Kenfish Town, London in 2003. Fun fact: The venue only holds 2000 people but had requests from 200,000 people! Those reunion shows were in demand!

October 15:

  • The song, I Don’t Want Your Love, peaked at number 4 in the U.S. in 1988. Seeing this reminds me that the band really did experience success throughout the 1980s and not just in those “early years”.
  • Duran Duran performed at Fashion Rocks in 2003.
  • Duran Duran held a CD signing at the Virgin Record Store in Hollywood, California, in 2004. One of the Daily Duranie bloggers attended with her eldest daughter! (If the daughter part doesn’t give it away…)

October 16:

  • John Taylor filmed the video for his song, Feelings Are Good, in New York City in 1996.
  • Duran Duran played at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. in 2011.

October 17:

  • Union of the Snake was released as a single, worldwide, in 1983.
  • Duran Duran played at the Belgrade Fair in Belgrade, Serbia in 2006.

Based on this list, sure does seem like Duran Duran is usually busy in the month of October. What is an event that we did not include, but should have?

Have a good week, everyone!

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
