The Week in DD History: March 14 to March 20

Astronaut Bus All State Arena 2005

As I begin to look back at Duran Duran history that took place during this week, I have to acknowledge that it is a big week for my personal Duran history. Lots of good memories happened for me between March 14th and March 20th. I think those reminders are coming at just the right time.

March 14:

  • Simon and Warren were interviewed on the Simon Mayo show on Radio 1; they also performed acoustically the songs Ordinary World, Perfect Day and Come Undone in 1995.
  • Duran Duran played at the House of Blues in Atlanta in 2001.

March 15:

  • The band appeared on the tv show, Extra, in 2005.

March 16:

  • Capitol Records/EMI released the double CD Strange Behaviour, containing remixes of songs from “Planet Earth” to “Drowning Man”; many mixes never before available on CD in 1999. Anyone own a copy of this?
  • Duran Duran played at SXSW Music Festival at Time Out in Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Austin, TX, USA in 2011.

March 17:

  • The band appeared on MTV Europe’s Most Wanted in 1995.
  • In 2017, Duran played at Agua Caliente Resort in Rancho Mirage, CA. Rhonda and I were there. Anyone else?

March 18:

  • John Taylor’s EP, Autodidact, was released through B5 website in 1997. The CD has video for Feelings Are Good.
  • Duran Duran played at the Allstate Arena in Chicago in 2005 as part of the Astronaut Tour. This was the first show that Rhonda and I attended together.
  • In 2017, the band played at Agua Caliente Resort in Rancho Mirage, CA. Yes, they played two nights at the same venue.

March 19:

  • According to the internet, Hold Back the Rain was written in 1982. It is one of my favorites!
  • In one monumental night, Duran Duran took the stage for the first time at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1984.
  • Duran Duran played at the Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee in 2005. Rhonda and I were lucky enough to attend that one.

March 20:

  • The single, Careless Memories, was released in the UK in 1981.
  • ITV1 aired One Night Only in the UK in 2011.

All in all, a pretty good moment in Duran Duran history. Any event that we missed that we should have included?

By Daily Duranie

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.

  1. I was at that 2005 Chicago show (and all the other ones since then)….sliding doors that I didn’t happen upon DailyDuranie until recently!

  2. Simon and Warren played Ordinary World and Crystal Ship on the Simon Mayo show. They did not play Cone Undone or Perfect Day, unless these were not broadcast ?

    1. Interesting. Thanks for letting us know. You should pass that along with the people who maintain the Duran Duran timeline. -A
