Fan of the Month: January 2022 - The Daily Duranie

Fan of the Month: January 2022

Before I post the January Fan of the Month, I want to thank everyone who has sent in answers/responses to the fandom questionnaire! I am posting them in the order in which they were received. That being said, I’m still accepting more! If you are interested, please let me know! On that note, let’s meet Tracy!

January’s Fan of the Month: Tracy!

When did you become a fan? Why?

1983 – my good friend was into them and she got me into them. Then before I knew it, my whole friend group was into them and they became the central point of our middle school years. Honestly they got me through so many hard times just to have their music as well as that bond with my friends. There are still many of us from that time that go to their concerts together in various locations.

What drew you to the band?

Their music first and foremost, and I was instantly drawn to Simon’s good looks and personality. My first concert of theirs was on February 20, 1984. Hearing “Tiger Tiger” still gives me chills remembering that show.

How do you participate in the fandom?

Facebook groups, go to concerts when possible. I live in Minneapolis, so they don’t come here as often as other places. I have seen them 13 times over the years in the Twin Cities here, as well as California, NYC, Vegas, and Chicago.

What do you like best about being in the Duran fan community?

The longtime fans have an understanding of what this band has meant to all of us over the years. The band has gotten us through hard times, helped us celebrate good times, and have given us so many memorable experiences.

Do you have a favorite concert experience? If so, tell us about it. When was it? Where was it? What made it awesome?

I have had many memorable concert experiences like the first time I saw them, the time my Mom got me second row back in 1988 and my arch enemy tried to sit with me and I got to send her back to her row, when I saw them at First Avenue in Minneapolis even though I had just been diagnosed with mono (my Mom still let me go), in Vegas when Simon kissed Nick, in NYC when they sang “Lonely in your Nightmare”. But my favorite is the most recent time that I saw them on 9/10/19 with my old DD friends at The Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA. A beautiful and intimate outdoor venue. We had third row. Simon came into the audience during The Reflex and I got as close to him as I ever have. I haven’t met him yet, but with this moment – I can die happy.

Quick Questions:
Favorite song: Girls on Film
Favorite album: Rio
Favorite side or solo project: The Power Station

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.

  1. What a great interview. Since onstage NiSi is rare, do you recall exactly which concert had Simon kissing Nick? I’d love to see if it’s on You Tube.It would be a fun counter to all of the JoSi they give us.

Hey there, thanks for commenting! We encourage spirited, kind and thoughtful discussion. Thanks for participating!!
