Hall of Fame?

By Nat

My part of the world is experiencing 15 inches of snowfall today. This storm triggered a “work from home” day and 45 minute intervals of shoveling. After round 1 of shoveling copious amounts of snow, I discovered that Duran has the opportunity to enter the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. My first reaction was elation and I tweeted happily at that establishment. This is not a “done deal” by any means. Thus, I decided to spend a few moments delving into why this step feels important with a hot cup of coffee in hand. It’s also February 2nd of 2022 (2-2-22) which feels like an auspicious day to write.

Duran Duran does not NEED this opportunity. Future Past’s release and subsequent media accolades more accurately reflect the band’s legacy. They continue to release new music, globally tour and make media appearances on their own behalf and on behalf of other musicians. John and Simon made excellent speeches when their idols, Roxy Music, were inducted recently. Nick frequently supports other artists in the news and during documentaries such as the Sparks Brothers film. Perhaps the HOF finally recognized what we always knew: this band is comprised of credible musicians. I’m glad the era of Duran as a “boy band” has ended. Are they still physically attractive to some of us? Sure. Yet the strongest thread interlinking Duran fans has always been their music.

I support the band’s induction due to their enduring catalog. Duran Duran DESERVES this opportunity. Think about many other bands who were Duran’s chart topping contemporaries during The Eighties. Duran is still making music and touring. They still have most of their core band members. The band members are still alive. Let’s give them their flowers and accolades now while they can enjoy them. When they are inducted into the HOF, I would like to see if Andy joins them in whatever manner all parties are comfortable with.  I suspect and hope so. I look forward to streaming the event. I’m also looking forward to seeing what other musicians will step up and support them at their induction. And yes, I look forward to seeing what outfit Nick selects. He always understands the assignment.

Whether the band enters the HOF during this cycle or in the future is out of my control. Yet, I will do my part and vote frequently. I just voted for the first time today and the sign up was an easy process. I plan to set a phone reminder to vote as life details will distract me. I truly do hope Duran Duran can capitalize on this opportunity and enter the HOF soon. It isn’t necessary to be in the HOF for their legacy. It would be advantageous to their brand. Plus, it creates a future vacation destination. Fingers Crossed.

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.

  1. It would be nice for the self proclaimed experts to finally get over their biases and admit Duran has been, still is, and will continue to be relevant. On a fiscal note, I read somewhere that it costs the ‘lucky’ inductees 150,000 dollars for the nomination. Is this true? While I’m sure that my concert tickets have helped Duran be well capable of affording it, is this true?
