November 2020 Survey/Poll Wrap-Up!

Once again, it is time to look back through the previous weeks and see just how everything shook out.

Next Album – who or what should be on the cover?

For this poll, we made you the art directors. The budget was low, and the choices were tough. Who should be on the cover – the band or artwork? (no, you couldn’t have both. We told you, it’s a low-budget deal!) Overwhelmingly, and quite frankly – surprisingly – you all decided that artwork, as opposed to a picture of the band, should be on the cover.

We’re still wondering about the 10% of you who answered by saying you’d be a terrible art director, though.

How about those Festivals?

The question is simple: do you like festivals or not? Of course, we also let you say that you detest them more than anything (that’s Rhonda’s answer), or that while the heart says YES, the body says “Are you nuts?!?” A whopping 64% of you answered with varying degrees of “No”, while approximately 19% of you out there are sadistic, crazy, people who love having your body battered to shreds while seeing a plethora of bands all day. There were another 16% that at least had good sense enough to know that even though they loved festivals….the body can’t quite take it like we were all still 20. Then again, maybe some of you are.

Fair enough.

Let’s Vote!

Okay, so maybe this wasn’t the most popular poll we’ve ever done, but a few of you were kind enough to play along. If you were going to choose one member of this band to be the president, who would it be?

I’m fascinated that so many of you chose someone who isn’t even a US citizen…but hey, I’m just the reporter here. What do I know about running this country?! Nick beat the eyeliner out of the hands of everyone else in the band, winning the popular vote by a nearly two-to-one margin from the next largest vote getter, and I’m not even going to ask for a recount! John was runner-up, followed distantly by Roger, and finally….Simon. Apparently, there aren’t many out there willing to hand over the country to the lead singer.

Alrighty, then. Moving on…

Favorite Album Cover

We’ve debated this for years, discussing it thousands of times over social media and even on the blog. This time though, we did it by poll. Rio was the runaway winner, blowing any other contender right out of the water. This was made especially interesting because it was proof of an earlier poll that fans prefer artwork over band photos on the cover.

Doesn’t it make you wonder what they’ll do with #DD15?

Man For All Seasons

Sometimes, we have crazy ideas for poll questions. This one takes the cake, at least for now. We asked you which band member reminds you the most of Autumn…and the winner was Roger! I wonder what is it about Roger that makes one think of the cooler weather, falling leaves, and warm golden color palette?

If You Could Be a Fly on the Wall

Let’s face it – if we had the chance to be in the studio, completely unnoticed by the band – I think many, if not most of us, would jump at the opportunity. If you had the chance to choose the album you were there to witness the creation of, though, what would you pick? We had many answers, obviously, but one was cited more than the others…and might have been the perfect loophole, too. The winning answer was “The latest one”, meaning that they’d want to be in on whatever album was worked on most recently, not actually Paper Gods.

Good answer, and way-to-go with working the system!

What Is On Your Wish List?

2020 has thrown us a doozy of a year. I for one, am ending my year in an even stricter lockdown than we experienced back in March. I can’t recommend it, that is for sure. So, to get our minds off of the present and onto something far more exciting, we asked what you might have on your wish list with regards to Duran Duran. Since this was a survey question rather than a straight poll, we received a lot of great answers. Some were about the next album, “Notorious 2”, “More heat”, “Edge of America edgy”, “I want to hear all of the musicians this time”. Others were very clear that while they were looking forward to new music, they just wanted to see the band again, or they wanted to see and meet the friends they’ve made.

Amanda and I concur on all counts. We are just hoping for a year filled with good music, less lockdowns, more good health, and perhaps a little bit of joy from time to time. That joy will inevitably come from new music, more of our favorite band, and maybe at some point, seeing our friends again while we go to a great concert. Let’s hope!

Thanks to everyone for participating! We are trying to come up with more fun questions to ask on a weekly basis, and if you have any creative ideas – feel free to pass them on!

By Daily Duranie

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
