My Own Way

Originally, I had a v-log all set to go for today. In fact, I’d filmed it yesterday morning my time, just as news was breaking regarding the US Capitol being defiled by rioters. After some thought, I decided that the particular video I’d filmed was probably too light for the day immediately following. Instead, I’m just going to introduce my new Thursday category in writing.

Essentially, I’m bored with doing polls and surveys. While they are quick and easy, they’re not doing the job as far as engagement goes. I suspect it is because we’ve been doing a Question of the Day since about 2011, and we’ve asked nearly all the questions we can think of. Additionally, other bloggers, podcasters, and even DDHQ have done their own questions. While I am fairly certain Amanda and I owe ourselves credit for having started these fun little questions, it is time for us to retire from them, at least for a while.

As I sat back to think about what I could offer instead, I realized that I miss doing my own thing. I don’t often blog for the sake of blogging anymore, and although I am the one who went to Amanda last year and announced that either we come up with a different way to “be” Daily Duranie or I would need to graciously exit – I still missed blogging. Each day we deliver some sort of content, but rarely do I take to the keyboard to chat about something I want to discuss. For example, I seldom give comment or do Katy Kafe highlights these days. This gave me an idea.

I love doing Daily Duranie with Amanda. I am also ready to consider doing things like v-logs and podcasts on my own, too. Although, I don’t have the the motivation to devote to something brand new on top of what I’m already committed, plus—I LIKE doing Daily Duranie with Amanda. It just seems like perhaps there could be a way to develop my own voice, and still remain a very active part of the duo (and then trio now that Jason is an integral part of our team!) we’ve been for over ten years now. Vodka Fridays Forever!

Each Thursday, I’m going to do something I call My Own Way. Maybe I’ll write a blog, perhaps I’ll do a v-log other times. No matter the method, the topic will be of my choosing, and it won’t always be about Duran Duran. Maybe some weeks I’ll talk about fandom. Others may include a discussion of new music, or a new album I’m really enjoying. Perhaps I’ll interview someone in the community that I don’t know, or maybe it’ll be something totally different.

So for today, I just wanted to comment a teensy bit on the David Bowie celebration for tomorrow night. Do you have your ticket yet? Live stream tickets start at $25.00 and go up from there, depending upon merchandise bundles, and the top level VIP package includes a virtual meet and greet with the pianist for David Bowie’s band, and producer of the event – Mike Garson. DDHQ says that all monies go to Save The Children, but in the interest of clarity – the ticketing website states that $2.00 from each ticket goes to Save the Children.

Duran Duran is on the bill for the event, and they’ve announced that they will be releasing a new single – a cover of Bowie’s “Five Years” tomorrow as well. I won’t lie, I’m really excited to hear it, even more so than the concert stream itself. Given the sheer number of performers on the bill, it would appear that each band will only do a song or two – logistically, it just doesn’t seem like they’d be able to do much more than that, so while it’s not a dedicated show by any means, it is exciting to know that we can see the band performing again! I’m very interested to hear what everyone thinks of it once it’s over. Duran Duran on a Friday night, what could be better?

By Daily Duranie

Once upon a time, there were two Duran Duran fans. One named Amanda, the other named Rhonda. Over many vodka tonics, they would laugh about the idea of one day writing a book about their fan experiences. While that manuscript is still being composed...Rhonda thought they should write a blog. (What was she THINKING?!) Lo and behold: The Daily Duranie was born.
